Press release: Information regarding the new parking fee ordinance

KWL GmbH, acting on behalf of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, is responsible for managing municipal parking areas and implementing the new parking fee ordinance effective since 1 June.

As a municipal company, KWL GmbH is entrusted with the management of the municipal parking areas on behalf of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck – and consequently, also with the implementation of the new parking fee ordinance, which has been in force since 1 June. KWL GmbH is currently in the process of updating the parking signs and parking machines. The transition is intended to be completed in the coming weeks. The following key changes should be noted with regard to the new ordinance:

New parking zones have been defined for Lübeck and Travemünde, and the prices adjusted according to these zones. In Lübeck, there are now three zones, which can be loosely defined as follows:

• I Old Town island + Central Station area: 30 minutes = €1.50; no day tickets

• II Old Town outskirts: 30 minutes = €1.20; day ticket = €8 (where available)

• III Remaining city area: 30 minutes = €1; day ticket = €6 (where available)

In Travemünde, there are two zones:

• IV Central areas (Möwenstein, Leuchtenfeld, ferry terminal, etc.): 30 minutes = €1.60; day ticket = €2 (where available)

• V Outskirts: 30 minutes = €1.20; no day tickets

Parking will be charged in 30-minute intervals. With the entry into force of the ordinance, this also applies to so-called ‘smartphone parking’. It is no longer necessary to display a sticker when using smartphone parking.

The parking price for camper vans in Lübeck has also been adjusted as part of the new ordinance: A 24-hour ticket for the designated areas now costs 20 euros.

Until 31 December 2026 and provided they have a corresponding e-license plate, all-electric cars as well as fuel cell vehicles and plug-in hybrids vehicles can use all public chargeable parking spaces for free for the maximum parking duration, with the exception of parking spaces in fee zones I and IV.

All the details and information regarding the above points can be found on the website of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck in German under ‘Local Law’ (Ortsrecht). The reference number for the parking fee ordinance is 3/29. Public notices – Hanseatic City of Lübeck
